Bedtime Rhymes

Ever since my two year old has been gifted the Karadi Rhymes Book 1, we have been trying to sound like Usha Uthup singing ‘My name is Madhavi – I’m from Alleppey’ every day.

This brightly packaged book and cd set has 10 Indian rhymes for Indian children to celebrate India. Usha Uthup is featured singing in English about mangoes, festivals, flowers and behlpuri followed by the same tracks being sung by children. The tunes are catchy and the album is well produced. The images in the book are colourful and exciting for little ones too. This set has been a great gifting option and there even is a Book 2 which I have just got my hands on.

Book 2 is about trains, the rains, kites and more. Childhood memories come rushing back with these rhymes, a few of which are in Hindi. Some of the tracks have the same tunes as book 1 with altered lyrics. I’d say book 1 is better.

If you can’t locate them at Crosswords, avoid the bookstore hunt / dial-a-book option and just log onto the site to order online. Indian residents get an online discount.
