Sit Down Dinners for Baby and Me

Chicco Quick Adjust Table Seat

I love sit down dinners complete with fancy napkin rings, crisp linen and the ‘clink clink’ of silver cutlery. It’s never too early to get your little one initiated into the epicurean world !  It may take a while before they master the art of using their cutlery or chopsticks but you will be surprised how much easier feeding becomes once they understand the concept of meal times.  Beats running behind them with a spoonful of mashed carrot and trying “Here comes the aeroplane, say aaaahh”.

The Chicco  Quick Adjust Table Seat  is a huge facilitator in this department. Now what’s different about this as compared to other baby high chairs is that it gets clamped on to your dining table. So your darling is literally sitting with you the table. It is a soft padded chair designed with a metal framework and there are U shaped clamps which go under your table and clamp onto it. An ingenious design which is easily removed so you can carry it with you on your vacations or  to anywhere… that has tables! The chair is comfortable (how do I know? They love sitting in it!) and can be used at play times also, as the table provides the space to paint, roll chapatis and other messy fun things.

The chair can be used from six months onwards until they reach 15kg which is usually 3-3.5 yrs.  My son has spent many hours playing and eating in this seat and now it has passed on to my niece who is enjoying it.

Give them chopsticks while they are sitting there, you never know…!

Available at Mothercare  and other select baby stores and priced at Rs.3995.

Cool ideas for trendy tots

Get set for a magical tour aboard the Big Red Bus

Big Red Bus created a huge stir when it opened in Bandra. Our visit to this fantasy land was peppered with ‘no baby please don’t climb into that fire truck bed’….. but thankfully nothing broke, proving the durability of the products and that the staff were unperturbed by a curious baby.

Radhika Mukherjee has set up this bright, colourful, exciting store with displays that trigger the imagination and ideas on how you can do up or re-do your kids room. The tastefully displayed doll houses, themed beds – cars and fire trucks, animal shaped clothes racks, adorable chest of drawers, cribs, brightly coloured cupboards, tea party tables and chairs, theme curtains, clocks, bins, lamp shades and stationery will make you wish these were around 35 years ago. But hey – they are here now and you are a mommy so try to ignore the steep prices and indulge in a little drama for your child’s room.

We are headed here soon to pick up the animal pegs clothes hanging stand. Browse through the concept catalogue or even meet with the team to set up a complete theme based on your space, requirements and budget.

Even if you don’t have redecorating plans, a few of the décor papier mache fish and butterflies in attractive colours with mirror work are great add-ons for any room.

Dr Ambedkar Road, Bandra (W). 26053367. Open from 11 am to 8 pm. Prices start at 300/- for small items.

Baby's Nest

Furniture for nurseries and kid’s rooms

I was talking about the phases of pregnancy the other day when I realised that I didn’t really concentrate much on the ‘nesting’ phase. It was only in the last month that my husband and I really got down to doing the baby’s nursery.

We already had a few basics but the stark white room glared at us. We settled for blue and yellow walls and started hunting around for furniture. The local carpenters seemed clueless about the nuances of nursery furniture; they weren’t going to think of rounded edges on tabletops and baby safe drawers. We had to find a pro - ‘Kidstuf’! They are manufacturers and retailers of baby and kid furniture for over 10 years and they customise too.

The store was bright and cute, the furniture well made, beautifully designed and practical. My husband checked the drawers, cots and bed sets to assess durability which were aptly given a 9 on 10. They had beds, dressers, cots, wardrobes, study tables and accessories to complete the room. The staff took us through a catalogue of themes but we decided to mix and match ourselves, off the shelf. We bought a bed with moon and stars, a wardrobe with clouds and a side table in sky blue. Quite a few new parents were ordering customised furniture - a ‘mermaid’ theme set among them. We hope their nursery turned out as lovely as ours. Ally is almost four and enjoying the bed and wardrobe - I think she is ready for a desk now!

Find Kidstuf stores at - 75, Link Road, Lajpat Nagar - 3,New Delhi and DLF Mega Mall. Sector Road, Gurgaon. Tel: 91-11-29837363, 51551881. Click here for more info on ‘nesting’.

A Fairytale Room

Vibrancy unlimited at Vividha

When hunting for exciting kid related furniture, bed & bath linen, decor, toys, thematic curtains and upholstery or even just vibrant colours and a range of ideas one store to head to is Vividha. While you can shop online from just about anywhere, the Khar outlet is tiny but packed with a large range of theme products from  wardrobes and bunk beds to animal / jungle print curtains and matching bed covers.

Indian themes have made an appearance recently, the interesting one being transportation, with images of buses, taxis and rickshaws. The concept runs through accessories such as toy baskets and even bedding sets.

This is a store for complete home decor and fashion products aiming to unleash a child’s creativity. The CEO Veena Deepak has promised to unveil a collection based on characters from Panchtantra and even Mahabharat.

Festive seasons invariably have ranges that reflect the vibrancy of the season. Diwali saw diya shaped cushions and diya motifs in their curtains too. Check out their online gift vouchers and gift registry.
We are headed to Vividha for a few tooth fairy boxes priced at Rs. 75/- each.

Delhi + NCR: Kids Rooms

The Perfect Little Room

Most kids have their own room despite the fact that they bunk with their folks for what feels like forever! That’s the case with us by the way. The nursery happened before the baby did and hunting for stuff to accessorize it with was a journey that I am still on, it’s been four years! Since we weren’t aware of stores that stocked everything we needed under one roof and were budget priced, we customized the furniture with a local carpenter and decided to do the drapes, linen, bedding and accessories the traditional retail way.

After much reconnaissance we zeroed in on ‘Kids At Home’. The husband fell in love with everything he saw but I was quite definite about what we needed and what we could spend. They stock everything from bedding to customized throw cushions. The accessories include table lamps and baby gift sets and the linen is adorned with sporty and funky prints rather than cartoon characters.

They have a small maternity wear selection and this is a good place to pick up a feeding pillow, swaddles, crib sets and rugs. My personal favourites are the super soft comforters and towels. Find them at –
